Wound Care: Latest Clinical and Professional Practice Updates

Introduction

This course offers an evidence-based approach to wound management to help health care providers stay current with the latest standards of care as well as sharpen their bedside skills, clinical judgment in the use of latest therapies. It also offers a unique dimension by including a core curriculum of professional practice content specifically pertinent to wound care programs and incorporating the latest standards of practice and patient centered drivers. The course is offered by dynamic instructors and trainers who use engaging teaching methods proven to help learners retain material.

This course is divide into a clinical and professional practice component:
- The clinical component will cover the anatomy and physiology of the integumentary system, wound pathology and the wound healing process. Discuss the principles of management for a variety of wounds, appropriate measures of care for each, and various dressing/treatment plans for a wound based on exudate, wound status, and available wound products.
- The professional practice component will cover how to formulate effective wound care plans, provide patient centered education for patients requiring wound management, the application of telehealth for enhanced wound care, understand the relevance of wound care safe nurse staffing, and quality improvement for a comprehensive wound management program.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Identify Skin Anatomy and Physiology
- Identify the wound types and what dressing/treatment modality to use accordingly for safe practice and enhanced patient outcomes
- Recognize Guidelines and Assessment tools for Wounds
- Discuss the care planning process and main hospital interventions aligned with assessment findings for improved patient outcomes
- Recognize the mechanism for conducting wound assessment using telehealth
- Explore the essential elements needed to initiate a successful wound care program
- Identify the quality improvement components of a wound care program
