Patient with physical disabilities have various neurological and orthopedic problems that interferes with motor function and daily activities.

During last decade improvement have been made internationally to enable people with disabilities to increase their level of independence in their daily life and increasing their opportunity to take part in the community.

Tow type of treatment approach can be use to achieve this goal presented with Remedial approach which focus on Changing the physiologic , biologic ,psychological or neurologic process, Teaching and training.

The other type of treatment approach is the Compensatory approach presented with Assistive devices and equipment which are part of the physical environment of patient and it refer to any item, piece of equipment, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve function for people with disabilities.

Adaptive equipment is used to compensate for physical limitation like muscle weakness or limitation on movement or sensory loss, and improve patient independency on his daily activity, also can be use to promote safety and to prevent joint injury.

Assistive device and equipment includes product, devices, or equipment wither acquired commercially modified or customized that are used to maintain, increase or improve function of people with disability.

OT therapist must be able to balance between the to approach and to use the proper approach based on patient disability and functional goal .

Objectives

1-Increasing OT therapist awareness and educating them about tow type of treatment approach in rehab field presented with Remedial and Compensatory approach when dealing for patient with motor disability.
2-Different types of compensatory approach.
3-Learning the health care professional on how to use assistive devices and equipment with patients .
4-How to make some adaptation and modification on some patient equipments and home environment to accommodate the disability.
