This ECG interpretation module is designed to equip learners with essential skills for analyzing and understanding electrocardiograms in clinical practice. Through a focused exploration of core ECG components, participants will learn to recognize normal sinus rhythm and differentiate it from abnormal patterns, laying the groundwork for accurate cardiac assessment. The course covers the identification of atrial fibrillation, classification of atrioventricular (AV) blocks, and the distinguishing features of bundle branch blocks. Learners will also gain practical experience measuring and interpreting the QT interval—including QTc—to identify potential arrhythmia risks, such as torsades de pointes. Additionally, the course introduces methods for calculating the heart’s electrical axis to support diagnostic accuracy in a range of cardiac conditions. By the end of the module, participants will have a comprehensive foundation for ECG interpretation in clinical settings.

Objectives

By the end of the course learners will be able to :
1. Recognize normal sinus rhythm and differentiate it from abnormal rhythms to establish a foundational understanding of ECG interpretation.
2. Identify ECG features characteristic of atrial fibrillation and distinguish them from other arrhythmias for accurate diagnosis and management.
3. Classify and interpret different types of atrioventricular (AV) blocks, including their clinical implications.
4. Distinguish between right and left bundle branch block patterns and understand their diagnostic criteria.
5. Measure and interpret the QT interval (including QTc) to identify risks associated with QT abnormalities, such as torsades de pointes.
5. Calculate and interpret the electrical axis of the heart to support diagnosis in various cardiac conditions.
